What student information can go in a prompt (almost nothing)
Lesson 2 of 7 · Compliance & safe AI use
1 · Learn the move · Constraints + negative instructions
The answer is almost nothing. A name beside a grade is an education record. A roster is a record. A gradebook export is a record with twenty-seven of them in it. The work goes in: the standard, the unit, the lesson, the note's facts as you typed them with the child lettered. The child does not. And taking the name out lowers the risk; it does not make the record not a record, and the district's policy decides what is permitted, not the vendor's terms.
Before I paste anything, read it and tell me what in it identifies a student: a name, an ID, a birth date, a parent's name, an address, a grade beside a name, an IEP or 504 reference. List each one and what you would replace it with. Do not tell me the result is safe.
2 · Your turn. You write the prompt
You want help writing a conference note for Student B. On your desk: the gradebook export, the reading screener with the name on it, and the email thread with the family. You are about to paste all three. Write the prompt that stops you.
Write the prompt for this scenario as given, or swap in a real one from your own work. The score works the same either way.
Remember: the AI sees only your prompt, not this page. If the situation isn't in your prompt, it doesn't exist.
Optional. These shape the output when you run your prompt below, not your score.
