A skill is a checklist Claude loads on demand: a SKILL.md describing when to fire and exactly what to do. Anything you've explained twice (how you letter the students before anything goes anywhere, how you turn a lesson plan into a sub plan, how you structure a family letter with every decision left as yours) is a skill waiting to be written.
